Under the Shadow: Behind the scenes
Life was good! We were celebrities but we were reasonably adjusted to the complexities that go with stardom. Fame meant attention, both good and bad; unfortunately too many public personalities had become prominent targets of bizarre behavior. Our own dear friend, Jenny Crosby, the late wife of Senator Frank Crosby, had been murdered in a hotel bombing that almost took my life as well. Even though the perpetrators had been caught, tried and punished, other threats existed that were all too real to ignore. Consequently, for our own personal safety and for the safety of those around us, we hired a panel of trained security specialists. Initially, it was difficult having so many constraints placed upon our personal freedom but in time we learned to accept it.
This is an excerpt taken from chapter two of Under the Shadow.
“Life was good!” In spite of the difficulties she faced, Rachel knew her life was blessed. She and her actor husband, Christopher were a contented couple. He was working on a new movie; they were living in a rented house in Larkspur, a city in close proximity to San Francisco, to complete his production; their children were well, and…well, life was good…until.
Until is a very important word. Life is unpredictable, and while things may be going very well one day, everything can change the next. And for Rachel and Christopher, life was good until some very mystifying incidents began that disturbed their peace and security. Events that ultimately brought Rachel to a place of constant fear about her personal welfare. Whether those feelings were real or imaginary, they were, nonetheless, genuine.
Spiritual warfare is the story behind the story in Under the Shadow. Throughout the novel I endeavor to cover the many aspects of spiritual warfare as taught in Psalm 91.
Rachel’s fears bring her to a place of spiritual doubt; a place many of us may visit, but hopefully don’t remain. And in seeking answers to her questions, she begins to realize the importance of keeping her focus and faith on Almighty God, our refuge and fortress.
Stalking is a serious problem in our society today. The National Center for Victims of Crime has a Stalking Resource Center you may access for information on this subject.
Psalm 91 He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
I will say of the Lord , He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.
Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence.
He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler.
Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day;
Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday.
A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee.
Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked.
Because thou hast made the Lord , which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation;
There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling.
For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.
They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone.
Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder: the young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under feet.
Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name.
He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him.
With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation. KJV
