Extra Rich Brownies

  • 2 ½ cups walnut pieces
  • ½ pound bittersweet chocolate
  • 7 ½ ounces unsalted butter
  • 4 eggs
  • ¾ cup ground almonds
  • Scant 1 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ cup all purpose flour

Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Grease an 8x10 inch pan.

Coarsely chop walnuts. Melt chocolate in top of double boiler, add butter and stir to blend. Remove from heat, set aside.

In another bowl, combine eggs, almonds, and sugar. Add to chocolate mixture and stir to blend. Sift baking soda and flour into chocolate mixture, stir to blend. Add walnuts.

Transfer batter to prepared pan and bake 20-25 minutes. Remove from oven, let stand 5 minutes, then unmold onto cooling rack and cool completely. Cut into 2-inch squares for serving.
